This certainly beats spinning up a full VM for seedbox/torrent-track-and-seed duties (at least in terms of performance impact stemming from a whole extra OS and often a whole set of those extra apps also running on many typical seedbox builds, or multilayer security configs to allow traffic to and from apps in said virtual box) or renting a seedbox from any of those specialist "cloud box/app" providers.Transmission, the default BitTorrent client, reached the 2.94 release a few days ago. Of course one can add any of those docker containers as an app in the Scale UI once it's fully working but maybe it's easy enough for the devs to consider including it in the charts to extend current client/jacket/sonarr/radarr etc. sharing of files to torrent streaming solutions without depending on 3rd party trackers or using torrent network communication to actually "backup" some data to a few "locations". It could improve bittorrent functionality a lot, allowing eg. opentracker that has several docker containers already created, is not a work-in-progress so no worries of constant updates that could break any work done on containerisation, but is feature-full-enough for its purposes and it's very light and does not require a ton of dependencies. But there is one feature seemingly missing - having own "private" light tracker, eg. Personally I'd love to see Transmission with support for torrent creation, though we could just as easily create torrents out of files on network shares and then upload them so that's not a biggy. Given TrueCharts stable/default TrueNAS Scale app catalogs contain Transmission as the torrent client, whilst I think TrueNAS Core offered other clients as well, I started to wonder if there are plans to extend the functionality with some light dedicated torrent trackers? Qbittorrent or Deluge, while quite feature-proof, come to mind as possible more "all-in-one" heavier solutions already in development version of the charts, but the key word here is "heavier". ![]()
